A man who is being charged with helping a former NHL star run a gambling ring has pleaded guilty to charges of bookmaking on Friday and has agreed to help the authorities with the rest of the case.
The 41 year old man is the second person to plead guilty in this case, which includes bettors who are current NHL players and a famous actress.
A New Jersey State Trooper
pleaded guilty in August and has been very helpful in explaining how he and a former NHL Star were partners and how they ran the illegal gambling ring, and the 41 year old was just the one to take the bets.
When he pleaded guilty on Friday the 41 year old did not give detailed explanations of what he did or how the gambling ring worked but he did say that some days he would take more then 5 bets worth more then 1000 dollars, which are the requirements for the charges he has been accused of.
He also told the court that between September 2003 and February 2006 he and several others acted as bookmakers for this illegal Sportsbook.
The man pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and promoting gambling, which can hold up to a 10 year prison term but because the man is cooperating with authorities they are recommending a jail term of between 6 months and 1 year, and a fine of $45,000.
