The issue of more licenses to gaming providers is one of the most discussed these days in Australia. Online betting exchange companies, like Bet Fair, expect the rest of states to follow the example of Tasmania and discuss the option of issuing more licenses to gaming providers.
Except for Tasmania that will be debating this issue in its Parliament this week, the rest of states are quite concerned about this matter because they fear that giving bookmakers the opportunity to support horses to lose will harm the racing industry in the country.
Andrew Twaits, Director of Corporate Affairs for Bet Fair, stated that the loyalty of the company to Tasmania will remain untouched even if they are granted more licenses and expressed his confidence in the victory of Tasmanias position over the rest of states. Twaits said that they are expecting more betting exchanges entering the Australian market during the upcoming year.
On the other hand, the state of Victoria is trying to give major sports the opportunity to decide who bets on their sporting events and benefit economically from it. Andrew Twaits said that they completely agree with this decision and, as a matter of fact, they have been working with the AFL on this basis for some time. They share revenues, they can give their opinion on how the wagers work, benefit from their profits and more. Twaits further added they have offered the same deal to other Australian major sports.
