According to new studies, the amount of money spent on gambling in Australia constantly grows. The new figures show that the amount of money spent on gambling in the last quarter of 2005 grew in 4.5 percent.
According to Paul Sullivan from the Bureau of Statistics (ABS), gambling revenues in Victoria are now around 1.8 percent and much bigger in other states. In New South Wales, the revenue from gambling is around 7 percent.
Tim Costello, from the InterChurch Gambling Taskforce, claims that the states hotels are operating too many slot machines. He also said that the presence of gambling devices in underprivileged neighborhoods increases the despair amongst their residents.
