Last year the Senate approved a plan that would have brought up 75 million dollars to balance the state budget by reducing the tax rates taken by cities from casinos. The subject was not brought up this year and according to state representatives it most likely not to be raised again.
Officials in Southern Indiana would benefit from this subject disregarding. Even though Southern Indiana five riverboat casinos have helped balancing local budgets, the officials are still worried from lawmakers who would try again this year.
Lawrenceburg, where Argosy Casino is located, accepted the biggest change. According to its new 10 million dollars annual plan, the city would start sharing casino profits by providing economic development grants to neighborhood counties. It also intends to give Franklin County 500,000 dollars each year.
