Mississippi will apparently remain as the third state with the biggest casino markets in the US. Even though most of the Mississippi Gulf Coast casinos were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina last August, the total casinos outcome of the first 11 months of 2005 was 103 million dollars higher than in Indiana, rated at number four.
Mississippi will probably stay as the third state with the biggest casino markets at 2006 as well. The casino industry in Mississippi is now being rebuilt. Three Mississippis casinos, the Imperial Palace, Isle of Capri and the Palace Casino were reopened, and other four are planned to reopen during 2006. More new casino projects are being developed in the river counties.
There are other differences between the casino markets in Mississippi and in Indiana. Mississippis policy tends to support the free market approach. While in Indiana, the number of licensed casinos is limited by the state, In Mississippi the casino number is up to the market place. While casino operators in Indiana pay 32.2 percent of their income as taxes, in Mississippi the tax rate is only 12 percent.
